Suriname’s former Minister of Justice, Mr. Chandrikapersad  Santokhi (1959) currently serves as the leader of the Indian Diaspora in Suriname, Chairman of the United Reformist Party (VHP) and also as the political leader of a combination of various multi-ethnic parties.
As a graduate from the Dutch Police Academy he migrated to Suriname and became the Chief Inspector of Police in 1982. Seven years later he became the Chief Investigation Officer of Police and Chief of the Police Force respectively.
In 2005 he was nominated as chairman of the United Reformist Party and Minister of Justice & Police. As a law enforcement specialist he was feared by the local criminals which gave birth to his nickname of “Sherrif” by the current President Bouterse.
Mr. Santokhi also serves as Chairman of The Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD), an agency of the Organization of American States (OAS) and a regional forum to deal with narco-trafficking and drug abuse in the Western Hemisphere.

He organised the Drugs enforcement and control structure in joint effort with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime [UNODC].

Being active in the Rotary organisation, Mr. Santokhi also was awarded the Paul Harris award.
