The Rt. Hon’ble Baroness Sandip Verma junior Minister for International Development Cooperation. Baroness Sandip Verma arrived in UK at the age of 9 months old baby in 1960. She completed her education in Leicester. She was a very bright student.

At the age of 19 she started her first business in the Hosiery along with her husband Ashok, supplying to wholesalers and to the high street stores. In 2000, she changed her business to the social service sector and went into auxiliary care. Her social service achievements are widely talked about in U.K. and India.
In 1999 she decided to join the Tory party and in 2006 she was raised to the peerage as Baroness Verma of Leicester in the county of Leicestershire. She was the opposition Whip in the House of Lords from 2006 until 2010, and during that time, was opposition Minister for various departments, including Health, Education, Children, Schools and Families and Universities and Skills.
In 2010 she became the Baroness-in-Waiting to Her Majesty the Queen, the Lords Spokesperson for the Department of International Development, Cabinet office and Women and equalities, the Lords Spokesperson for the department of Business, Innovation and Skills on Universities and Minister in the Government Whip office.
Baroness Verma was appointed the Minister for Energy and Climate Change on 6th September 2012.
Baroness Verma has a strong interest in Diversity, gender issues and international affairs, particularly in the South Asian Region and Africa. She has received numerous awards and supports and is Patron of several charities and organisations. She was awarded the prestigious Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Award by the President of India (on behalf of Government of India) in 2011, in acknowledgement of her outstanding achievement in the field of public affairs and in recognition of her valuable contribution in promoting the honour and prestige of India and in fostering the interests of Overseas Indians. In September 2010 Baroness Verma was conferred upon an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration by the Wolverhampton University. And on 11th October 2012 she was awarded the prestigious Golden Peacock Award (internationally renowned award) for Social Leadership of 2012 by the Institute of Directors, India, in London.
